Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Mooview helps you import, review and keep your audiovisual memory. This policy explains what data we use and why.
Data we process
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture. We also store the movies you choose to save, including information such as watch status, ratings and favorites.
Your movie imports
The initial reading of an export from Letterboxd or Filmow happens in your browser, and the original file is not uploaded or stored. Available title, year and identifier information is used to find the title in the catalog. When you save an import, we keep the matched titles and pending matches so you can review them later. Trakt imports are temporarily disabled; previously imported history remains stored. Raw diagnostic data expires within 30 days; the normalized result remains while your account exists to prevent duplicates and support review.
How we use this data
We use your data to authenticate your account, build your library, remember your preferences, understand how the service is used, and operate and protect Mooview. We do not sell your personal data or your movie activity.
Security and abuse prevention
To protect account creation, contact forms and catalog imports, Mooview may use Cloudflare Turnstile. It processes a short-lived anti-abuse token and technical information such as your IP address to assess whether a request comes from automated software. This check is used only on those sensitive actions, not across ordinary browsing.
Usage analytics (PostHog)
We use PostHog to understand Mooview's reach and usage. On your first visit we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, or until you choose, nothing is stored in your browser: visits are only counted through a temporary daily hash calculated by PostHog, which cannot tell who you are.
If you accept, PostHog stores cookies and records pages visited, clicks, the origin of the visit and technical information about the device and browser. When you are signed in, these events are linked to your internal account identifier — never your name or email — together with actions such as creating an account, importing a history, logging a title, publishing a review, creating a list, following someone, commenting or liking. These events carry categories and counts only, never the text you write. We also record sessions to find screens where people get stuck: everything you type is hidden in the recording, and the administration area and account settings are not recorded.
Data is processed by PostHog in the United States. When you delete your account, your PostHog events and recordings are deleted too. Your browser's Global Privacy Control signal counts as declining. You can change your choice at any time:
Third-party services
To operate Mooview, we rely on specialized third-party services for sign-in, usage metrics, hosting, database operations and file storage. These providers may process the technical data needed to run and protect the site. Catalog information and posters come from The Movie Database (TMDB), and some trailers are played through YouTube when you choose to watch them. Each service follows its own privacy rules. Mooview does not sell your personal data.
Cookies and sessions
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, protect your account and save preferences such as language, region and appearance. A short-lived security cookie may also keep an approved Turnstile check valid while a large import is processed. If you accept analytics cookies, PostHog also uses cookies to measure visits and interactions; your choice itself is kept in a cookie so we do not ask again. Mooview does not use this data to sell personal information or show behavioral advertising inside the product.
Contact
When you use the contact form, we store your name, email, subject and message so we can reply and keep a support history. We also store a derived identifier from your IP address — a server-side salted hash used only to limit repeated submissions and not to recover the IP address. You can request deletion of these messages at any time.
Your rights
From your account area, you can download a copy of your ratings, logs, reviews, lists, tags and source identifiers. You can also delete your account there; once complete, the site provides a receipt and removes account data, including linked avatars, mural content and contact messages. Public comments remain anonymized as “Deleted account”. For corrections or questions, write to contact@mooview.tv or use the Contact page.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The date above always identifies the most recent version.
